On Saturday, 27th June 2026, Sewa Lodge marked a significant milestone in its history with the historic Turning of the Sod and Laying of the Foundation Stone Ceremony for its proposed Masonic Temple in the city of Bo.
The ceremony commenced with the Director of Ceremonies of Sewa Lodge assembling the Brethren and distinguished guests for this memorable occasion.
Proceedings officially began with a warm welcome address delivered by the Worshipful Master, WBro. Ajie Wilson-Taylor. In his address, the Worshipful Master extended a heartfelt welcome to the District Grand Master, distinguished guests, traditional authorities, revered elders, Brethren, ladies, and gentlemen who had gathered to witness this landmark event.
The Worshipful Master described the occasion as a significant milestone in the history of Sewa Lodge, marking the beginning of a noble and enduring undertaking. He noted that the laying of the foundation stone represented not only the physical commencement of the Temple but also symbolized the unwavering commitment of the Brethren to the timeless Masonic principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.
He emphasized that the Temple would stand as a beacon of integrity, fellowship, service, and moral values for generations to come. The Worshipful Master also acknowledged and appreciated the presence and support of the Paramount Chief, community elders, and all guests, stressing that Freemasonry flourishes through mutual respect, cooperation, and harmony with the wider community.
Furthermore, the Worshipful Master expressed sincere gratitude to all who had contributed towards making the project a reality and offered prayers for the craftsmen and all those who would be involved in the construction of the Temple, wishing them safety, wisdom, and success throughout the project.
Following the welcome address, Scripture readings were delivered by WBro. Reginald C. King.
The District Grand Master, WBro. Emile Moses Charles Carr, subsequently addressed the Brethren and guests, commending Sewa Lodge for taking the bold and commendable step of embarking on the construction of its own Masonic Temple. He encouraged the Brethren to remain united and committed throughout the project, emphasizing that the Temple would serve not only as a place of Masonic labour but also as a lasting legacy for future generations.
The ceremony then proceeded with the symbolic Masonic rites, which were conducted by Rev. Harold Johnson. As part of these rites, the foundation stone was solemnly laid at the north-east corner of the proposed Temple by the Worshipful Master, WBro. Ajie Wilson-Taylor, signifying the formal commencement of the construction project. Thereafter, the Turning of the Sod was ceremonially performed by the District Grand Master, WBro. Emile Moses Charles Carr, marking the official beginning of this historic undertaking.
In keeping with ancient Masonic tradition, corn, wine, oil and salt were poured upon the foundation stone. These symbolic elements represented plenty, joy, and peace, respectively, while invoking blessings upon the Temple and all who would labour within its walls. The ceremony served as a reminder of the enduring values of Freemasonry and the importance of building upon a firm foundation of faith, integrity, and brotherly love.
The occasion was a true reflection of brotherhood, unity, and the enduring spirit of Freemasonry. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Sewa Lodge and stands as a testament to the vision, dedication, and collective efforts of its members.
The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by WBro. Jabez Rogers-Wright, who expressed profound appreciation to the District Grand Master, WBro. Oliver Charles Andrews, Victor Kenneth Elber, Desmond Finney, distinguished guests, traditional authorities, Brethren, and all present for their support and participation in making the occasion a resounding success.
